Online Learning



How Does It Work?
Online learning is a form of instructor-led independent study for those who cannot attend on-campus classes on a regular basis. In the online setting, learning is facilitated by an instructor who is available to answer questions, encourage discussion on course topics, and provide feedback.
Who Can Enroll?
Only students who have been accepted into the College Prep Programme by the Admissions Office, The College of The Bahamas can enroll in online classes.
Is Online Learning For You?
Find out if online learning is "right" for you by assessing your computer skills and check to see if you have the necessary equipment/software.

If your answer is yes to the following statements, you are a good candidate for online courses!
  • I am a skilled reader who is at ease with written instructions and lessons.
  • I am a self-directed learner, with the initiative to visit a course site regularly.
  • I can continue learning independently while waiting for feedback on assignments.
  • I am organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • I enjoy working in a computerized environment.
  • I have at least 5 or more hours a week to commit to an online course.

  • I can turn a computer on, off, reboot it and comfortably use a mouse.
  • I know how to create a new word processing document.
  • I can open, spell check and save a word processing document.
  • I am able to save files to the desktop.
  • I can use a URL (Universal Resource Locater) or web address.
  • I can send and receive email.
  • I can attach a file to an outgoing email message.

  • I have frequent access to a computer and to the internet.
  • I currently have an email address.
  • I have Internet Explorer.
  • I have a current word processing program on my computer.
  • My Internet access is via a 56K modem or better.
You Will Need:
Computer:
You will need regular access to a computer with an Internet connection and Web access for the duration of your course. A Macintosh or PC system with at least a Pentium 4 MHz/ G3 processor is required. You also need an up-to-date Operating System such as Windows 2000 (or above), and a headphone set with a microphone attached.

Internet Access:
You must access and use your internet account to connect to your online courses. High speed is recommended for the ideal learning experience. Cable or DLS connections should work well.

Web Browser
A graphic browser such as Internet Explorer (version 6.0 or better), or Firefox is required. In some instances, it may be necessary for some users to upgrade their web browser programs.

Email
Depending on the system being used, you may be assigned an email account that is accessed within your course or you may be required to use your personal email account.

Software
Most courses require word processing software. Individual courses may have additional technical and/or software requirements.
Code Of Conduct
You may not:
  1. use another individual's account or grant another individual access to your account;
  2. interfere with the work of other students, faculty members or college officials;
  3. send inappropriate messages, including but not limited to, messages which are offensive, abusive, derogatory, seditious, harassing, or threatening.
You are responsible for:
  1. any and all use of your account(s); therefore, you must maintain secure passwords for all accounts assigned to you, ensure and safeguard against others obtaining unauthorized access to your accounts, and must not share passwords or any other access control information for your accounts;

A. No

Q. Why are online courses more expensive than on –campus classroom courses?
A. Because of the technology that is involved and the license fee required by the Partnering institutions.

A. All online course sections will be identified in the section column as "OL".
