Presidential Search 2010

New Document Background

President Janyne M. Hodder will be stepping down on June 30th 2010 after four years of excellent leadership at the College and service to both The College and to the country. The College Council is now establishing the process by which it will seek out candidates and identify the next leader of the College.

In accordance with The College of the Bahamas Act of 1995, the President is appointed as follows:
6. (1) There shall be a President of the College who shall be appointed by the Council, with the prior approval of the Minister.
The College Council will carry out a search and find a candidate capable of leading the College to continue on its path of academic excellence, international presence and community engagement and to deliver on its mission ‘to support and drive national development through education, research & innovation and service'.

The search process will be clear, inclusive and accountable while also protecting the confidentiality rights of potential candidates. It will require the assistance of an experienced search firm to assist in identifying potential candidates. The search will be executed by an Advisory Search Committee named by Council and reporting to Council. The Committee will assume responsibility for protecting the confidentiality rights of potential candidates and the confidentiality of its deliberations.

In recognition of the importance of the College as a national institution supported by public funds, the Committee will be inclusive and bring together both internal and external stakeholders. While the final decision on the appointment of a President rests with Council who must act with the approval of the Minister of Education, the Advisory Search Committee is expected to play a critical role in shaping the profile of the ideal candidate and in assisting in finding qualified candidates.
