Study Abroad and Exchange Opportunities

Valdez Russell, International Relations Liaison, addresses students on the growing number of opportunities for enriching their student experience by studying abroad.

11 January 2008

International Relations Liaison, Valdez Russell, addressed over 30 students in the Lecture Theatre of the Michael Eldon Complex on the possibilities of studying abroad and the many opportunities to be enjoyed by spending time studying in a foreign country.

The students were anxious to know more about the different programmes and all shared a growing interest in broadening their experience by attending college overseas.

Russell told the students that more than two hundred thousand students from US universities and colleges studied abroad last year and went to schools in countries as different as Brazil, South Africa, Iceland and Japan. They studied a wide range of subjects and came from some prestigious universities, such as New York University, University of Florida and Ohio State University.

Interested students listen to Mr Russell's presentation.

After explaining some of the criteria to be applied in selecting the students to represent both The College and the country, Russell distinguished between a study abroad experience and a student exchange before detailing four Study Abroad opportunities in the offing in 2008.

One is to Cuba in May for which there is a meeting for all interested on January 24th at 2.15 p.m. This is for Spanish language students at the lower levels. Another is to Mexico for upper level Spanish language students during the first summer session and there will be a meeting for more information on January 24th at 3.15 p.m. The third is a study experience in England for history and psychology majors or students wishing to take film and drama courses. The meeting for this opportunity will be in February. Finally, there is an exchange partnership with The Hague University for students studying business or international management.

Any students wishing to meet Mr Russell individually on a one on one basis should go to his office in the Office of Research, Graduate Programmes & International Relations next to Oakes Field City Market on Monday 14th January between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
