The partnership begun in 2007 between The College of The Bahamas and Bacardi & Company Limited, creating The Bacardi Emerging Leaders Endowment worth $250,000, is beginning to come to fruition. This semester saw the first Bacardi Emerging Leader, Krystal Treco, begin her College career as the recipient of the major entrance bursary. Every year the funding from Bacardi will provide a major entrance bursary for one new student entering a full-time bachelor degree programme in accounting or any of the natural sciences.

Miss Treco, a full-time first year student in the Bachelor of Business Degree programme majoring in accounting, graduated from St John's College in 2008 as an Honour Roll student in her Grade 12 class and passed seven BGCSE exams. She has wanted to pursue studies in this area since she was in Grade 10 and this past summer she worked in the accounts department at the Ministry of Agriculture to gain some first-hand experience.
"I am honoured for this opportunity," remarked a delighted Krystal, "and to have been selected out of so many students who need financial assistance. I am so thankful to be given the award. I am also glad that Bacardi is giving young people a chance at life and giving me an opportunity to pursue my goals and dreams."
