Appointment of Dr. Eslyn Jones as Vice President, Student Affairs
The College community is advised of the appointment of Dr. Eslyn Jones as Vice President, Student Affairs, effective Monday, November 14th, 2011. As Vice President, Student Affairs, Dr. Jones will be responsible for cultivating a rich and supportive environment for student development, including supervising effective programmes for guidance and counselling, providing oversight for a broad range of student services, administering regulations regarding student conduct and serving as an advisor to the President on student life. Dr. Jones joins The College from the University of Technology in Jamaica (UTech) where she held the position of Assistant Registrar for Student Services. Having worked in senior university administration for over fifteen years, Dr. Jones has extensive experience as an administrator with responsibility for student learning and personal development; financial aid; counseling and residence life. During her tenure at UTech, she was responsible for establishing two signature programmes: Leadership and Mentoring. One of her most important contributions at the University of Technology was her advocacy for the establishment of a unit for students with disabilities. Dr. Jones has a Doctorate in Ministry (Pastoral Counseling) from Columbia Theological Seminary, Atlanta, Georgia, and holds a Master of Science in Education (Counseling) from University of Nebraska at Kearney. She also attended The College of The Bahamas in 1975 and completed a Course of Training in Teacher Education. Dr. Jones succeeds Mr. Colyn Major who has given twelve years of dedicated and selfless leadership, bringing focused attention to the portfolio areas under the Office of Vice President Student Affairs, including Counseling & Health Services, Athletics and Campus Life. Mr. Major returns to the Counselling and Health Services Department.
