Their Excellencies, Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes and his wife, Lady Joan Foulkes, were taken on a tour of the Harry C. Moore Library & Information Centre at The College of The Bahamas on Wednesday, June 15th.
The Library, named after former Chairman of the Lyford Cay Foundation and former member of the College Council, Harry C. Moore, was officially opened on April 8th, 2011. Sir Arthur said he was particularly impressed with the technology in use at the facility which has a 24-hour Information Commons. "I wish I had something like this when I was a student, and even in years later as a working journalist this would have been quite wonderful to do research [in]," said Sir Arthur, a former journalist and past Director General of Bahamas Information Services. A 60,000 square foot facility, the Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre can accommodate 575 library users and has group and study spaces, two classrooms, an auditorium, a conference room and is handicap accessible. It also has wireless access throughout the property.
