The Harbour Island Story Launched

Ann and Jim Lawlor signing copies of The Harbour Island Story

4 November 2008

Husband and wife team, Ann and Jim Lawlor, launched their eagerly awaited book, The Harbour Island Story, in October at Chapter One Bookstore. The couple have deep roots in Harbour Island as Ann’s father, historian Paul Albury, was born there, Ann and Jim spent a number years researching and writing the book and the result is a fascinating and eminently readable history of one of The Bahamas’ most picturesque and interesting islands.

From the Eleutheran Adventurers to the loyalist architecture and from the pirates to the legendary pink sand beach, Ann and Jim have lovingly and carefully painted the Harbour Island canvas with knowledgeable, assured brushstrokes that provide fascinating insights into the story of this Bahamian treasure.

Generously illustrated with a range of photographs and tables, the book is a welcome addition to the library of publications on The Bahamas and represents the only authoritative account of Harbour Island’s history and people. It is available in Chapter One Bookstore.

Ann Lawlor is a long-standing member of the School of English Studies faculty and a past Chair of the Department of Humanities at The College of the Bahamas. Her husband, Jim, is an avid historian who revels in uncovering details about the past.
