Last week, The College of The Bahamas won the prestigious annual Corporate Excellence Award presented by the International Association of Administrative Professionals® (IAAP) Bahamas Chapter. The award recognizes that The College has achieved levels of excellence in the support it gives its administrative assistants and the working environment it has created for them.

It also confirms that The College exemplifies best practices in its working relationships with its administrative staff, encouraging them to attend seminars and conferences, organizing workshops to improve customer service, providing timely technical support and ensuring that they work in a safe, conducive workspace. The newly opened Wellness Centre demonstrates that The College has the health and fitness of its staff at heart and its generous budget for staff development allows them to pursue further qualifications and expertise to both better compete in the global environment and to fully support The College's agenda.

IAAP is the world's largest association for administrative support staff with over 600 Chapters world wide. A delighted President Janyne M Hodder accepted the award at the Administrative Professionals' Day Luncheon which was one of a number of activities comprising Administrative Professionals' Week 2008. We will hold the trophy for one year and will now be entered for the International Corporate Excellence Award competition the results of which will be announced at the IAAP International Convention and Education Forum to be held in New Orleans in July 2008.

As The College transitions into the University of The Bahamas, it is looking to improve the quality of all its services and has recently embarked on an extensive quality control campaign. This award will assist in the benchmarking of its administrative support work and encourage the senior management to continue along its destined path.
