College Signs Agreement with Inter-American Investment Corporation
President Janyne M Hodder representing The College of The Bahamas and Sr Jorge Roldan of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the bases of cooperation between both institutions to implement the FINPYME programme in the Bahamas. FINPYME is a review and evaluation methodology tailored to the needs of small and medium sized companies and The College will act as the IIC's FINPYME agent in The Bahamas.
Under this programme, the IIC, which is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, will provide training to College of The Bahamas professors so that they will become familiar with the FINPYME methodology for carrying out diagnostic reviews of at least 20 companies in the Bahamas. Public launching of this programme in The Bahamas will take place later this year and interested companies will be invited to attend in order to learn more about the programme.
This is another tangible step in The College's transition to university status. It establishes a strong link with an international organization, it will increase The College's contribution to national development by assisting businesses in the country and it will add to the qualifications and experience of members of faculty in the School of Business. The research and the methods used in carrying it out and reporting it will undoubtedly reflect the College's goal of building the nation through education, research and innovation.
The selected faculty members will analyze small to medium sized companies in Nassau, Freeport and the Family Islands and complete diagnostic reviews of their situations. They will then prepare plans of actions outlining the steps the companies should take in order to make the changes necessary in their operations so that they are better prepared when requesting long-term financing from the banking sector.
