Interim Appointments of EVP and VP, Academic Affairs

The College community is advised that at its November 9th, 2011 meeting, the College Council approved the following interim appointments with immediate effect:
  • Dr. Earla Carey-Baines as Executive Vice President
  • Dr. Brendamae Cleare, as Vice President, Academic Affairs

Dr. Carey-Baines has served The College of The Bahamas with distinction for more than 20 years having provided academic and administrative leadership in various capacities including president, dean, chair and department head. She currently serves as interim Associate Vice President, Northern Bahamas Campus. As Executive Vice President, Dr. Carey Baines has responsibility for all administrative duties as delegated by the President. Pursuant to the College of The Bahamas Act, 1995, the Executive Vice President also performs the duties of President whenever the President is absent from The Bahamas, is unable to perform her duties for any reason or if there is a vacancy in the office of President. Dr. Carey-Baines holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree with an interdisciplinary focus on English, Education and Sociology and Master of Arts degree in Composition and Rhetoric, both from Washington State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Dr. Cleare has given The College of The Bahamas dedicated service for more than 30 years providing sound guidance and leadership as dean, chair and assistant chair. Her appointment as interim Vice President, Academic Affairs, makes her administratively responsible for all educational planning, administration and academic programme development as well as recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of faculty. She has direct oversight for all schools, the Culinary and Hospitality Management Institute, the Northern Bahamas Campus, Testing Services and Graduate Programmes.

Dr. Cleare holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Education degree from the University of Nebraska and also completed undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
