Librarian Wins Place on Group Study Exchange Program
Elsie Bain, an 18 year veteran of The College of The Bahamas, has worked in almost every unit of library service at College and is at present the Acquisitions Librarian. She recently applied for one of Rotary International's highly sought after places on its Group Study Exchange program, a unique cultural and vocational exchange, and after a rigorous interview and submitting an essay, she was selected as one of the five Bahamians who will travel to Arizona in May. For four weeks she will stay with a family, take part in four Rotary events per week and have an opportunity to study academic libraries in Arizona.
Elsie, who joined The College Libraries and Instructional Media Department straight from school, has grown to love all aspects of library work and has a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. She is really looking forward to experiencing a different way of life and a different culture but she is even more eagerly anticipating visiting some academic libraries, including the University of Arizona.
The College of The Bahamas is in the process of establishing a virtual library which can be accessed from anywhere, so she particularly wants to check out the technology used, the systems employed and the software run at the University of Arizona in facilitating their virtual library.
While Elsie and her four companions enjoy four weeks in Arizona, a group form the Grand Canyon State will be staying in The Bahamas as part of the exchange.
