Staff Observer Elections

Sherlyn Hall, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Parliamentary Registration Department; Antoinette Seymour, Chief Returning Officer; Rodman Forbes; Prestonia Wallace; Etienne McKenzie, External Accountant/Auditor, Grant Thornton.

17 October 2008

The battle for the right to represent the staff as Observer on the Council reached an exciting finale after a day of voting on Thursday 16th, October. When the polls closed, the two candidates and the election officers gathered in the A block boardroom for the counting of the votes and when all had been tabulated, Rodman Forbes, from the Libraries and Instructional Media Services Department, won the right to serve on the Council for his second term by defeating the outgoing incumbent, Prestonia Wallace, from the Physical Plant Department, by 125 votes to 43.

An elated Rodman announced, "I am very pleased to have been elected back onto the Council. I feel it shows that the staff have confidence in my ability to represent them and that they have confidence in the system. I am looking forward to getting to know the new members of the council who have come on since I was last the Staff Observer and I am also looking forward to making one or two suggestions about the observer position and the way it functions."

Prestonia graciously congratulated Rodman and wished him all the best and added that the important thing was not that she won or lost but that the staff continued to be represented on the Council. She went on, "It has been a privilege and a pleasure to have served my colleagues for the past year. I am grateful to have gained first hand knowledge of how the Council does its work and I was very impressed with the way items were documented in detail and will remain as reference points in the future."
