The Student Newspaper

The Spectrum is a 12-page monthly newspaper produced by students of The College/University of The Bahamas. The paper is administered by the Student Publications Board (SPB) which falls under the aegis of the Office of Student Affairs. A Faculty Advisor chairs SPB and supervises the production of the newspaper and training of staff.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve The College/University of The Bahamas community with a forum of news, information and views presented in a clear, meaningful and journalistic way.
Vision
Our purpose is to provide students from all disciplines throughout The College/University the opportunity to participate in hands-on publishing. Our goal is to build excellence in each issue so that a tradition is developed and The Spectrum will become one of the finest student newspapers in the region. Our aim is to
  • report on issues and events affecting The College/University community
  • promote a common sense of identity and purpose among readers
  • build a catalyst for discussion, debate and action
  • showcase local cultural, health and commercial activities
  • uphold the highest standards of journalist integrity on every page
  • uphold the motto of The College/University of The Bahamas: "knowledge, truth, integrity shall be our guide."
Invitation to Join The Spectrum Staff
Any student can join The Spectrum staff. Strong commitment is expected of those who are selected as members of the editorial team. If you wish to become an editor or assist as a contributing writer, photographer, graphic designer, researcher you should contact Student Publications for an interview with the Faculty Advisor and student Managing Editor. If you have good grades in English classes, care about issues affecting students and The College, and possess the motivation to put in the necessary time to help produce a quality newspaper, then you have the most important requirements.
