Mission Statement

To provide an environment that is safe, affordable and conducive to learning for students at The College of The Bahamas.

General Regulations

If you live in student housing, you will be expected to follow all student housing rules and regulations. Students who do not adhere to these requirements will be penalized or evicted without notice.

Eligibility for Residence

  1. You must not be working full-time (unless you are in your final semester with fewer than six (6) credit hours remaining to complete your programme of study).

  2. You must be taking twelve (12) or more credits per semester, unless your degree will be completed during that semester. You are required to be in good academic and financial standing with The College.

  3. Each student is allowed two years of residency. For additional time, you must reapply to the Housing Officer. You must also leave a deposit of twenty dollars ($20.00) payable before the last day of classes of each semester for the upcoming semester.
N.B.: If you do not leave this deposit, you may forfeit your space.

  4. When you complete the Associate degree, your eligibility for residency is automatically terminated. (If you are a Teacher Education, Nursing or other major, you may be given special consideration depending on the length of your programme).

Rules/Regulations Regarding Dorm Residence

The eligibility requirements for private scholarships, grants or bursaries include:
  1. At the beginning of each semester, you are required to pay rent for the entire semester. If you are unable to pay the full fee ($400.00) you can make arrangements with the Financial Controller to pay in installments.
  2. As a new resident you are required to pay an additional $400.00 security deposit.
  3. If you withdraw during a semester, you may receive a refund in accordance with the following scale:
    Within the 1st week - 95% refund
    Within the 2nd week - 85% refund
    Within the 3rd week - 75%
After the 3rd week - nil
  4. If you plan to withdraw from student housing, you must first notify the Housing Officer or Dorm Director.
  5. Apartments and houses will be inspected on a regular or impromptu basis for service, maintenance and repair or emergency purposes, as often as the Housing Office or Dorm Director deems necessary. You must inform the Dorm Director if you feel anything in the dorm needs repairs.
  6. You are responsible for keeping your living area both inside and outside your immediate surroundings clean and healthy. You are encouraged to purchase cleaning materials and supplies (e.g. buckets, mops and brooms).
  7. Before occupying your quarters, you need to complete a Room Condition Form and get the key from the Housing Officer or Dorm Director.
  8. In order to receive a full refund of your deposit you will need to return all keys.
  9. If you are a new student, you will be allowed to choose your roommate subject to the approval of the Housing Officer and/or Dorm Director.
  10. You must submit a copy of your timetable to both the Housing Officer and the Dorm Director. Also submit the name(s) and address(es) of the person(s) to be notified in case of an emergency.
  11. The College will not be held responsible for loss, damage or theft of your personal or private property.
  12. You should at all times conduct yourself in a proper manner. Refrain from using obscene or unpleasant language and make every effort to avoid shouting in the hallways. All disruptive noise should cease at 9:00 p.m. on weeknights and at 10:00 p.m. on weekends.

  15. Dorm residents must accompany guests at all times. (No outsiders will be allowed access except by invitation of a resident.) All guest names must be submitted to the security booth before guests are allowed to enter the premises and all guests must submit an ID at the security booth. Forms may be collected from the Housing Officer and completed and returned in duplicate at least two (2) days prior to the visit. Relatives are allowed to stay for up to three (3) days. If you do not comply with these regulations, you will incur additional charges of $5.00 per person per day.
  17. You should always respect and show consideration for your roommates/dorm-mates. Introduce visitors to all occupants of the residence, as well as to the Dorm Director.
  18. Members of the opposite sex are not allowed to stay overnight in the residences. They are never permitted to enter the bedrooms. Failure to comply will result in immediate eviction.

  20. Pregnant dorm residents should make arrangements to leave College Housing by the third month of pregnancy. A doctor's certificate showing expected date of delivery must be presented to the Housing Officer or Dorm Director no later than the second month of pregnancy.
  21. Occupants of the residences are responsible for damage to or misuse of College property. Any damage or excessive cleaning costs of an apartment caused by the occupant, beyond that arising from normal wear and tear and use, must be paid for by the occupant, in addition to the regular occupancy rate attributable to one or more individuals or occupants of the apartments on a prorated basis.
